Young gymnasts have a spring in their step.
Over 70 pupils from Year 1 and 2 came together for the first East Riding Key Step Gymnastics Festival at Beverley High School on Tuesday afternoon. School teams of 5 gymnasts competed against each other across 3 disciplines, Body Management, Floor and the Vault in an event aimed specifically at newcomers to the sport. The planning started months ago when school staff were offered training in both the competition and judging elements ahead of entering a team. The children had obviously been practising their routines and when it came to the event they did not disappoint. For the Bridlington School Sport Partnership, the winning team was Martongate, runners up were Bempton and in third place were Leven. In the South Hunsley SSP competition, Warter school teams took 2nd and 3rd place, just behind the winners who were Springhead Primary School. Now Martongate and Springhead progress through to the Humber Gymnastics Final where they will perform against other winners from the Humber region. Huge thanks goes to the High School for hosting us as along with all who came and offered support on the day - the school teams, parents, the Young Leaders supplied by Longcroft school and especially the Judges who all gave up their time to ensure the event could happen. Particular thanks also go Natalie Laws, Community Sports Coach for helping co-ordinate the event and Sarah Knight who collated all the results in super fast time enabling us to have the presentation straight after the last performances. The event will now remain on the calendar for next year and where possible we shall be offering additional opportunities for other age groups. Look forward to seeing you all again. Well done everybody – full results attached to this report.
